KAHAL BEIS TEFILLA – In the heart of Ramat Eshkol, Yerushalayim's choice neighborhood for families from around the world, Kahal Beis Tefilla is more than just a place to daven. With five active kollelim throughout the day, programs for boys, programs for girls, sedarim for retirees, and shiurim for ladies, Kahal Beis Tefilla is a fortress of Torah.
Families who arrive from abroad often have little immediate family in Israel, and Kahal Beis Tefilla creates the sense of closeness and community many families feel they are missing. The shul hosts weekly kiddushim for men, ladies and children, as well as events on Chol Hamoed, Chanuka, Purim, Lag Ba'omer and siyumim and melave malkas throughout the year.
The shul has also originated creative ideas to involve more members in its programs. Friday afternoon is a time when Shabbos preparations are at their busiest. Our Friday afternoon Kollel provides free babysitting for children, so that the men can learn and the ladies can prepare undisturbed. Tisha B'av is a day of inspiration from some of the most popular speakers in the Jewish world. Our communal seudas Purim replaces the warmth of a family celebration.
Shiurim for the public on an average day include Daf Yomi Yerushalmi and Bavli, Dirshu Mishna Brura, Nach, Mesilas Yesharim, Shir Hashirim, Rambam, Halacha, Maharal, Nefesh Hachayim, and on three different Masechtas in Gemara.
Kahal Beis Tefilla as a kehilla comprises retired Rabbanim, young couples, families from North America, Europe, South Africa, Australia and Israel.
The Rav and Rosh Kollel, Rav Dovid Steinhauer, a talmid of Rav Moshe Shapira and Rav Shlomo Wolbe in hashkafa and of Rav Nosson Tzvi FInkel and Rav Osher Arieli in Gemara, is involved in all the learning programs and shiurim in the beis medrash. Rav Steinhauer also is part of the beis hora'ah of Shearis Yisrael under Rav Dovid Morgenstern shlita, and is available to answer questions on halacha throughout the day.
